Horse racing set to music
12 June 2009
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is to perform at the world's
first horse race run to live music at Kempton Park.
The orchestra will perform Rossini's William Tell Overture as
the horses race down the one mile, three furlong course during
July.
Ian Maclay, of the Royal Philharmonic, said everyone was
excited. "We have chosen this particular piece of music due to its
galloping rhythm which will hopefully inspire both horses and
jockeys to cross the finishing line," he said.
Equine psychologists believe that the music could make the
horses gallop faster as animals react to music in much the same
ways as humans.
